K&L Gates Secures Victory for Syte in Patent Troll Case

9 November 2024

K&L Gates recently obtained a pre-answer voluntary dismissal of a patent troll case in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas on behalf of Syte – Visual Conception Ltd. The case was brought by prolific non-practicing entity Pointwise Ventures LLC. The dismissal resulted from a series of correspondences the firm sent to Pointwise Ventures, each strategically targeting a particular vulnerability in the plaintiff’s case.

The K&L Gates patent litigation team representing Syte in this matter was led by Austin partners Henry Pogorzelski and Stewart Mesher.

“Our Austin-based IP litigation team is pleased to announce yet another example of our unwavering commitment to defend against groundless NPE lawsuits,” Pogorzelski said.

Founded in 2015 as an image search company, Syte has since expanded its product offering to become the first-ever Product Discovery Platform, providing AI-powered visual search, personalization, automated product tagging, marketing tools and even in-store solutions like smart mirrors that bring together the online-and-offline worlds.

K&L Gates’ global IP practice has more than 250 lawyers and professionals – including more than 125 registered patent lawyers, agents, and technology specialists with technical or advanced science degrees, nearly 30 with doctorates – who devote their practices to helping clients establish, enforce, and leverage their intellectual property rights worldwide. K&L Gates’ IP practice filed more than 5,470 patent applications and 4,550 trademarks worldwide in 2023.
