K&L Gates Adds New York Partners in Firm’s Asset Management and Investment Funds, Corporate Practice Areas
1 September 2021New York – Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Josh Berick as a partner in the corporate practice area, and Jacqueline Duval as a partner in the asset management and investment funds practice area. Both join K&L Gates’ New York office, with Berick arriving from Jones Day, and Duval from Herrick Feinstein LLP, where she was chair of the firm’s family office practice group.

Joining the firm’s corporate M&A practice, Berick advises investment funds, strategic investors, and emerging growth and start-up companies on M&A transactions, growth equity and venture capital investments, and joint ventures, including in the health care, life sciences, technology, infrastructure, and energy industries. He has extensive international experience, having led complex cross-border transactions in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Among the transactions on which Berick has advised are Solmax’s €435 million acquisition of TenCate Geosynthetics; EagleTree Capital’s $525 million acquisition of Corsair Gaming from Francisco Partners and the subsequent $238 million IPO of Corsair Gaming; Royalty Pharma’s $260 million acquisition of a royalty interest in Eli Lilly & Company’s EMGALITY®; Verizon’s sale of cloud and managed hosting assets to IBM; and GE Healthcare’s strategic partnerships with Roche (to develop an integrated digital diagnostics platform for oncology and critical care treatment) and Preventice Solutions (to develop an ambulatory cardiac arrhythmia monitoring suite).

Duval arrives at K&L Gates with more than 25 years of experience and substantial knowledge regarding the structuring and servicing of family offices and transactional work related to their investments. She provides counsel to both single- and multi-family offices. A tax lawyer by training, her practice also includes domestic and international tax; private equity, hedge funds, venture capital and entrepreneurs; investment funds; and foundations, not-for-profits, and tax-exempts.
Duval has extensive experience with the tax guidelines related to private foundations and other charitable organizations, and in managing the challenges that arise when these entities or related persons are parties to an investment. Duval has a special interest in promoting diversity and equality by supporting and working with women entrepreneurs and investors. She joins the firm’s asset management and investment funds practice area.
